In Bangsamoro (Moro), which gained the status of an autonomous Islamic state in the south of the Philippines, located at the eastern end of the Asian continent, approximately 200 young Muslim scholars attended the “3rd Young Ulema Conference”. At the meeting, the importance of the contribution of Muslim youth to the Moro-Islamic struggle was discussed, while the roles of the young scholars in ensuring lasting peace in the Bangsamoro region were discussed.
ISLAMIC SCHOOLS LEAD THE YOUNG GENERATIONS
Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) President Marjanie Macasalong said that this conference is of vital importance in supporting the spiritualist policies of the Bangsamoro government, which advocates the concept of "moral governance", and inspiring new policies.
Macasalong said, “Our youth are the pillars of the Bangsamoro state. For this reason, we attach great importance to the guidance of Islamic scholars on younger generations. We are aware that the future of Bangsamoro will rise in the hands of our youth.”
A GOOD MUSLIM LEADER MUST HAVE SUPERIOR CHARACTERISTICS
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialaniise, Deputy Mufti of Bangsamoro, talked about the qualities of an ideal Muslim leader.
Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani reminded that a successful Muslim leader should be selfless, courageous, open-minded and well-organized in all aspects. A similar conference was held for young Muslim female scholars in the city of Cotabato on May 27.
The Young Scholars Conference has been held regularly for 3 years by the Bangsamoro Youth Commission (BYC) and partner organizations. The first conference was held in Cotabato City in 2020, while the second was held in Sulu in 2021.
