Recently, a group of people started to aggressively bring the Istanbul Convention, which Turkey withdrew from last year, to the agenda again. Many institutions, especially the main opposition party, filed a lawsuit against the Council of State for the annulment of the presidential decision regarding the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention.

Hundreds of lawyers appeared in the lawsuits, almost as if they were showing their strength. First of all, it is useful to state the following. Turkey withdrew from the contract last year, but the contractual law numbered 6284 remains in effect. In other words, although we have officially withdrawn from the Istanbul Convention on violence against women, many issues are actually evaluated according to the framework drawn in the Istanbul Convention. Recently, the Minister of Family, Labor and Social Security, Derya Yanık also expressed this situation.

While this is the case, the aggressive efforts of some groups to annul the decision to withdraw from the contract reveals that the issue has an ideological background and that their main issue is not to lose the contract, but to maintain the sociological and psychological effect of the contract on the corruption of society. Since the critical role of women and families in the revival and corruption of society is known, it is believed that they act in a hurry not to lose a psychological position they have gained. It is so ambitious about this issue that; If the decision to withdraw from the contract is overturned by the Council of State as a result of the lawsuit filed by the main opposition today, they will not even be able to see how much premium the government, which basically has no problems with the logic of the Istanbul Convention, will gain politically. Finally, it is worth mentioning the following issue.

As it is known, the supporters of the Istanbul Convention carry out their propaganda with the claim that "Istanbul Convention keeps alive". This slogan can be expressed as a hypothesis put forward by the proponents of the contract, and the hypotheses make sense if they are supported by data. However, the data presented both in Turkey and in many other countries where the contract is valid do not support the hypothesis that the Istanbul Convention will survive. On the contrary, after the entry into force of the convention in many countries, the picture of violence against women has worsened.

In other words, the hypothesis in question means nothing more than an ideological slogan that is not supported by the data. Moreover, for the solution of a social problem, it is not reasonable and logical to expect a single text to be the solution for many societies with different beliefs, values, cultures and social structures. What needs to be done is to make arrangements to prevent violence within the framework of our beliefs, values and social needs. Of course, if the intention is to solve problems...

The economy administration, which is in search of closing the public financing gap, announced that it will issue a debt securities called “Income-Indexed Notes (GES)” as a type of government domestic debt securities. GES is a debt securities based on the revenues transferred to the Treasury by state economic enterprises, which was first introduced in 2009 during the current government period. There are many professors in the market to issue fatwas on the aforementioned securities, but it is not Islamically acceptable to purchase GES since it includes a minimum rate of return guarantee.

On the other hand, it has been announced that the SPPs exported at the first stage will be indexed to the revenues transferred to the Treasury by the General Directorate of State Airports Operations and Coastal Safety. In an environment where the official inflation rate is 73%, it is not unreasonable to expect people to exchange foreign currency in order to buy debt securities indexed to the revenue of the two institutions, which are stated to have transferred 5.2 billion TL to the Treasury in the last six months. Therefore, it seems unlikely that the SPP issuance will meet the expectations. However, this step is also an indication that the economy administration has run out of bullets and has no compass on what to do.
