The recent visits of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir deserve exceedingly to be discussed. After meeting with al-Assad in Damascus last December, al-Basher met with Sisi in Cairo at the weekend.

What do these diplomatic attacks of Basher, whose country is still under conflicts, mean? Why does Basher stay close to Syria and Egypt with whom Turkey has problems, while he tries to stay as close as possible to Turkey?

Reading these visit sequences correctly has not only importance for Turkey, but also for the region.

Besides this, the question, “How does Turkey comment on this visits?” sticks in our minds.

In what level is the knowledge of Turkey about these meetings of Sudan with whom Turkey is in close relations in many fields keeping from renting cultivated areas of Sudan to the collaboration in Sawakin Island? If Turkey has knowledge in one way of these meetings, this is a situation that needs to be well analyzed and focused on carefully.

According to official sources, Omar Basher laid a special emphasis on the role of Egypt for the security of Sudan during his visit to Cairo. Besides this, he said that the security of Sudan and Egypt are intercorrelated. He also stated that important projects including electricity and railway are carrying out together. We can comment on the statements made so far as an evaluation about the mutual benefits of two close neighboring countries. But also the last situations of Syria, Yemen and Libya are spoken. So, regional progresses were also discussed.

Besides this, the fact that Omar Basher's visit to Egypt took place after Qatar visit on January 23th makes this meeting more interesting. Last month the Damascus meeting, after that, the Qatar meeting and afterwards the Cairo meeting show that it is a well-fictionalized, a well-drawn traffic. With this, it shows itself up as a matter that it should be carefully examined whether there is a relation between the internal disturbance in Sudan and these visits of Basher. So, someone says to Bashir, “don’t hang out around too much; otherwise you won’t be able to get out of head of troubles, inside.”

On the other hand, as it is known, the Arab League brought the suspending membership on account of the “Arab Spring” last December to the agenda and paved the way for Syria to be a member of the league again. As we mentioned above, after this progress, Basher went to Damascus. Meanwhile, before long, Pedersen, the new Syria Special Representative of the UN who came instead of De Mistura who retired from office, came also together with Ahmad Abu al-Ghayt, the secretary general of the Arab League, to speak about Syria. Besides all this vertiginous progresses, the point we should focus on is; where does Turkey rank in all this traffic? Is the region being re-designed, or are there new progresses that Turkey is also involved? All in all regardless, Turkey should immediately take a step with an active road map to avoid Syria, East Mediterranean, and Gulf from facing with a new fait accompli and must be alert to progresses that have the potential to threaten Turkey’s safety.
