The issue of employment also came to the fore in the detail of the warning that '5,000 fuel stations may be closed', which our newspaper brought to the agenda from the headline the previous day. Due to the hikes in fuel and electricity bills and increasing exchange rates, close to 50,000 employees at nearly 5,000 stations that cannot afford to buy fuel and face the danger of closure, may also lose their jobs.
“FUEL STATIONS CREATED GREAT EMPLOYMENT”
Speaking to our newspaper on the subject, Petroleum Products Employers' Union (PÜİS) Chairman İmran Okumuş stated that there are approximately 150,000 employees at 13,333 fuel stations in Turkey, and said, "Fuel stations are not limited to providing fuel and contributing to the country's economy. It also creates a huge employment area.”
“IMMEDIATE STEP SHOUL BE TAKEN”
Expressing that the negative picture of the country's economy in recent days has also affected the fuel stations, "Exorbitant hikes in electricity and fuel products, the increase experienced in exchange rates and the structural problems of the sector make the station owners a great victim. Nearly 5,000 stations cannot get fuel because they do not have any collateral to present to the bank. If this situation continues and these stations lock their doors, there will be big problems not only in reaching to fuel, but also in the field of employment," İmran Okumuş added and called for urgent steps to be taken.
