We were in Şırnak last week on the occasion of the “International Congress of Economic and Administrative Sciences” hosted by Şırnak University.

Evliya Çelebi used for some places in his travel book” coffee tray will not even stand straight “Şırnak is a mountainous place suitable for this definition in shape.

“Sefine Hill”, which is estimated to be the place where Noah's Ark sat ashore after the flood, is still standing at the top of Mount Judi. The city expects to be explored with its geographical and historical features.

The events affected the area deeply. The roads to the city have improved considerably compared to the old ones. However, a bitter fact is that; the reflection of traditional Eastern culture on clothing is not only changing, but also physical change. There is no old Şırnak where there are known one-story houses anymore. There's a city with high-rise apartment buildings made up of concrete piles. This is a sign that the established culture and the traditional way of life have rapidly changed (-).

During the troubled period, many local residents of Şırnak moved out of the city, although returnees, the majority of non-returnees. In other words, there is a difference and alienation in the texture of the city. There was serious damage in the area due to ditch incidents and operations. Now the wounds are wrapping. However, we see that a new social engineering operation comes into play. State facilities have been mobilized to solve the problem of housing, but a serious concrete is visible.

The city is now being designed to destroy the old neighborhood culture. Of course, the goal here is; to control and degenerate people into apartment buildings. And it is not unclear who will benefit from this. It is clear that the indigenous people are not happy about it.

The bad thing is; the city, stands on the earthquake zone and landslide zone. Despite these risks, high-rise buildings were built without adequate measures. This situation is seen as a great danger. In fact, some of the apartments are said to have shifted the floor. It is stated that complaints are made but the ear is not hanged.

In fact, the living of the apartment is not suitable for the lifestyle of the people of the region brings a painful change.

With a serious military mobility in the environment, and a helicopter, logistics activities continue intensively. The security point, which we are used to seeing all over the country in the period, is more intense here.

Life here seems to be stagnant relative to other cities. Trade life is limited to almost a few coffee houses and restaurants. These are located serves public officials such as security, special operations, intelligence, expert sergeant and teacher in the region.

The economic wheel in the city revolves through security forces and other bureaucracies residing there. Officials have a high level of income because they receive eastern compensation. Anyway, the reason is keeping them here.

There is almost no production and operation in Şırnak except with exceptions such as coal mines which are not very much related to the center. Therefore, some policies should be reviewed. Especially with fertile lands, agricultural and animal husbandry potential should be evaluated. Other principles should be taken into consideration when setting up new settlements in the destroyed area. Because every official, military and police officer in the province counts days to request an appointment.

Finally, such an organization was important in a place like Şırnak. Especially for contribution to Dear Rector Prof. Dr. M. Emin Erkan, Chairman of Congress Prof. Dr. Halil Ibrahim sugözü we would like to thank our valuable colleagues, for their hospitality.
