Dialogue statements from the government about Syria, which came after years, point to a new era in foreign policy.
While 11 years have passed since the government's attitudes and discourses on Syria in 2011, the Syrian issue has turned into a national security problem for Turkey.
In the first periods when the problems in Syria began, the government, which initially turned a deaf ear to the calls for dialogue of the Saadet Party, did not hesitate to use a harsh and sharp language.
However, after 11 years passed, the government, which realized the importance of dialogue, points to a reconciliation with Bashar Assad.
Erdogan and his government, who have made very harsh statements against the Syrian regime, especially Assad, since 2011, when the problems began, are considered as a U-turn.
The government, which considers the calls of Saadet Party and non-governmental organizations to choose the path of dialogue in Syria policy, as treason, draws attention to the importance of dialogue today.
It is known that Erdogan, who showed his closeness with Bashar Assad by saying "My brother Assad" before 2011, used "Esed" after 2011.
After the policy change in the last months, it is a matter of curiosity whether the address will evolve from "from Esed to my brother Assad".
THE NEED FOR SOFTENING AND DIALOGUE IS INCREASING
The need for a kind of softening and dialogue between Syria and Turkey has been increasing day by day. Last week, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, "For a long time, Putin and Russian officials wanted to bring Assad to our president. Our President also said that the meeting with the intelligence services would be beneficial. In the past, there were talks between intelligence services. Then there were interruptions, now it has started again," he said and pointed out that they were in contact with the Syrian regime.
U-TURN AFTER 11 YEARS
AKP Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı, on the other hand, drew attention to the relations with the Syrian regime, using the expressions "The relations with Damascus may become direct and the level may rise" in a television broadcast the previous day.
In his statement, Yazıcı also underlined that the most important step to resolve conflicts is dialogue.
After Çavuşoğlu, Yazıcı's pointing to a dialogue with Damascus led to comments of "U-turn after 11 years".
