TURHAN: BANNING THE FREEDOM

The Anatolian Youth Association (AGD) and National Youth Foundation (MGV) President Salih Turhan made the assessment that he believed that "freedom of belief and thought encompasses the right to live a life of learning, teaching, organizing and believing." "As long as the rights of others are not seized, and there is no oppression, domination or violence, there can be no restrictions on the exercise of these rights by Turhan. Friday prayer is a prayer performed with a certain community in the daytime. To put an exam or lecture to the hour in which this prayer, which is already known in advance, will be done, means to prevent the freedom of belief and thought, at least indirectly. We want to see our universities as centers of science and thought, not as institutions that interfere indirectly with the freedom of belief and thought. We are grateful to all the university administrations who have made an effort in this regard."

SELVİ: SHOULD BE TURNED FROM MISTAKE

Turkey's largest non-governmental organization Association of Educators Union, had previously demanded that steps be taken on the issue brought to the bargaining table. Latif Selvi, Deputy Chairman, pointing out that Friday prayers should not be left to the initiative of the institutions and persons, "This issue should be addressed with the will of the person who wants to make it, not the initiative of the people and institutions. The subject should also be evaluated in the context of freedom of belief, "he said. Recalling the decisions taken under the collective agreement, Selvi said, "No institution has any restrictions and rights. It needs to make the necessary ease and arrangement. If there are mistakes made in Sehven, it must be returned from here. If they are made consciously, they should be warned. " Selvi, recalling that no university can deliberately prevent such obstruction, said, "Students and employees should be able to perform Friday prayers in peace and fulfill their worship. Freedom of worship is fulfilled in the desire of the worshiper. It is not formed by the external influence of any institution or person. We believe that all institutions will show the necessary precision. No institution can see itself as an exception, including universities. We will be followers of this." he said.
