The fact that especially Northern European countries turn a blind eye to and even covertly support Islamophobia under the name of "freedom" and that Islamic countries do not go beyond "condemnation" causes an increase in vile acts of burning the Qur'an, which is our most sacred.
The "meaningless inaction" of Turkey and the Islamic world in the face of attacks on "our holiest" deeply hurts the members of the Ummah.
A MESSAGE CAN BE GIVEN WITH THE SWEDEN ISSUE...
Turkey, which vetoed Sweden on the NATO membership issue, paved the way for this country's NATO membership in recent weeks, despite Sweden's lax attitude towards the Qur'an burning actions.
Despite having an opportunity to take a stand, the government, unable to take advantage of this opportunity, bowed to the EU and US guidance on NATO. As the opportunity to give a strong message against these despicable acts was missed, other countries, including Sweden, also strengthened their hand in this issue.
UNSC CHARACTERIZED IT AS “VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW”
While worldwide reactions to the immoral attacks on the Qur'an were rising, especially in European countries led by Norway, Sweden and Denmark, the issue entered the agenda of the UN Security Council.
UNSC unanimously approved the draft resolution describing all kinds of violence against holy books and people who believe in them as a violation of international law and strongly condemning such actions.
The United Nations General Assembly has recently passed an important resolution addressing the escalating attacks against the Holy Quran.
The UNSC unanimously approved the draft resolution submitted by Morocco, which defines all forms of violence against persons, holy books and religious places because of their religious beliefs, as a violation of international law.
In the resolution, all acts of violence against individuals due to their religion or beliefs, as well as acts of violence against religious symbols, holy books, homes, workplaces, property, schools, cultural centers and places of worship of individuals, were defined as violations of international law and were strongly condemned.
ATTACKS AGAINST THE QUR'AN
In Sweden, which had witnessed attacks against the Qur'an before, Salwan Momika, an enemy of Islam of Iraqi origin, burned the Qur'an in front of the Stockholm Mosque on 28 June, in front of the Stockholm Mosque, on the first day of Eid al-Adha.
On July 20, Momika trampled the Qur'an and the Iraqi flag in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm, under police supervision.
In Denmark, the dishonest group that burned the Qur'an in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Copenhagen on July 22, burned the Qur'an in front of the Iranian and Iraqi embassies on July 24, respectively.
The group had previously attempted to insult Islam by attacking the Turkish flag and the Qur'an in front of the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen. Members of the anti-Islamic and ultra-nationalist group "Danske Patrioter (Danish Patriots)" in Denmark burned the Koran yesterday, first in front of the Egyptian and then Turkey's Copenhagen Embassy.
SWEDEN: “WE ARE WORKING TO NOT REPEAT THE ACT”
Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström described the attacks on the Qur'an in his country as "despicable" and claimed that his government is trying to change the law so that such attacks are not repeated.
In a written statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that Swedish Foreign Minister Billström had a telephone conversation with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.
During the meeting, Swedish minister Billström noted the existence of constitutional restrictions that limit his country's government's ability to prevent such behavior.
He expressed his deep regret for these actions, which his country described as "despicable", and clearly rejected the incident,
"We are working to prevent the disrespect to the Qur'an from being repeated," he said.
“THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC OPINION SHOULD DO ITS DUTY”
Saadet Party Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Kaya reacted harshly to the burning of the Quran in front of the Turkish and Egyptian embassies in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
Underlining that the basic freedom of religion and conscience and international law were, unfortunately, once again disregarded with the ugly attack, Kaya said, "The international community must now do its part. These ugly attacks, which are carried out almost every week, deeply hurt Muslims all over the world."
The provocations of the Qur'an, which drew the reaction of the Islamic world in Denmark, do not stop! An anti-Islam group burned the Quran in front of the Turkish and Egyptian embassies in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Saadet Party Deputy Chairman and Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Kaya condemned and reacted to the recent attacks on our holy book in western countries, especially Sweden and Denmark.
“INTERNATIONAL LAW IS BEING IGNORED”
Kaya underlined that, unfortunately, once again, fundamental freedom of religion and conscience and international law were disregarded with the hideous attack on our holy book in Denmark.
"First of all, I condemn and curse those who make and encourage this despicable attack, just like the others. The international community must now do its part. I would also like to express that these ugly attacks, which are carried out almost every week, deeply injure Muslims all over the world and harm the culture of coexistence in Europe," headded.
“THIS IS A HATE CRIME”
Noting that attacks on our holy places in Europe continue, Kaya said, "Finally, a racist and insulting letter was sent to the DITIB Turkish-Islamic Union Mevlana Mosque in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of Germany. Written with threats and racist expressions, this letter is an attack not only on the mosque and the mosque community, but also on the environment of tolerance and respect that underpins the society that has lived together for more than half a century despite all differences. This is a hate crime. We strongly condemn this heinous act. We convey our best wishes to the DITIB Turkish-Islamic Union Mevlana Mosque community, and invite all political, social institutions and organizations to fight and take action against these and similar attacks and events."
