After the G7 leaders meeting in Hiroshima released their final statement on the dire human rights situation in Tibet and Xinjiang, the Uyghur Movement expressed its disappointment.
A weak statement was made after the G7 summit, which consisted of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The Uyghur Movement said it sent a discouraging message to the millions of Uyghurs and Tibetans who continue to suffer under the Chinese government's oppressive regime.
"We will continue to voice our concerns about the human rights situation in China, including in Tibet and Xinjiang (East Turkestan), where forced labor is of great concern to us," G7 leaders summit final statement said.
The Uyghur Movement made a statement on the subject.
"While it is encouraging to see acceptance of the issue, this statement falls far short of our expectation of the insufficient need and strong and decisive action needed to address the ongoing Uyghur genocide," the movement said.
“UYGURS NEED ACTION, NOT WORDS”
Rushan Abbas, head of the Uyghur Movement, expressed his disappointment with the G7 statement.
"The statement by the G7 leaders is a missed opportunity to show genuine commitment and determination to address the serious human rights violations taking place in Xinjiang. Raising concerns alone will not stop the ongoing persecution or bring justice to the victims. Uighurs need decisive action, not words," Abbas said.
Abbas continued his words as follows:
"Forced labor is not just a major concern; It is a grim reality for the millions of Uyghurs who are subjected to exploitative practices in China's factories, fields and detention camps. G7 leaders must go beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to ensure that companies and governments that participate in or benefit from Uyghur forced labor are held accountable."
The Uyghur Movement gave the following statements at the end of its statement:
"The time for weak expressions and symbolic gestures in the hope of encouraging the Chinese regime to honor its international commitments is long gone. The Uyghur Movement demands swift and decisive action from the G7 and the global community to achieve justice and end suffering."
