Yıldırım stated that this speculation made by the stockists with pistachio caused serious damage to the ice cream, künefe, cake, Turkish delight, halva and chocolate industry, especially the baklava sector, and that they demanded the government to strictly control the sector by saying ‘stop’ to this trend. Stating that they called on their members not to produce pistachio baklava until the exorbitant increase in pistachios comes to an end, Yıldırım emphasized that they will not sacrifice the national dessert baklava to stockists. Yıldırım pointed out that the informality of pistachio is very high and that some stockists raise prices speculatively by trading among themselves.
MINISTRY ALLOWED IMPORT
Yıldırım said, "Even though the yield is good, stockists collect pistachio from the market and spread fear in the market by saying, ‘Pistachio is not available this year'. This situation does not give a breath of fresh air to our country's economy and all sectors that produce with pistachio. Due to the lack of supervisory and determining mechanisms in the sector, black market stockists who benefit from this gap causes it to take a leading role in the market. As BAKTAD, we made the necessary negotiations with the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and received a promise for import permission from the Ministry. We expect it to significantly reduce prices with import freedom.”
