While the annulment of the Istanbul Convention is considered as a satisfactory development in order to eliminate a great damage, it is stated that the law numbered 6284, which is the legal basis of the attacks on our family values, should be abolished urgently.

The Istanbul Convention was terminated by Presidential Decree last Saturday, following persistent public pressure for many years. The annulment of the Istanbul Convention, which caused huge wounds in the society and destroyed thousands of families during its 10 years in force, was welcomed by large segments of the society.

Felicity (Saadet) Party Women's Branch President Ebru Asiltürk, President of Turkey Family Council Adem Çevik, World Children's Rights Association President Southeastern Anatolia Region Dr. Ugur Balin and Researcher-Writer Sema Marasli, evaluated the effects of the abolition of the Istanbul Convention to the Milli Gazete.

"THE SENSITIVITY OF MILLI GAZETE VERY IMPORTANT"

Ebru Asiltürk, Chairwoman of the Women's Branches of the Felicity (Saadet) Party, pointed out the struggle put forward to abolish the Istanbul Convention, "The sensitivity shown by Milli Gazete to the Istanbul Convention is very important in this regard. A great damage has occurred due to the concepts introduced by the Istanbul Convention. With the termination of the Istanbul Convention, the damage caused by the contract has been prevented. However, the state and the nation should fight hand in hand to prevent violence against women. We also strive with all our might to prevent violence and abuse against women. The fact that the Istanbul Convention has been abolished does not mean that we will give up on this struggle," she said.

"MILLI GAZETE HAS BECOME A SCHOOL LEADING US"

Chairman of the Turkey Family Council Adem Çevik, "Against this scandalous contract that waged war against humanity, Milli Gazete, our school, became a school that guided the society. We said stop all together to a project that imposes immorality and genderlessness. Of course, we are not withdrawn by saying that we are withdrawing from the Istanbul Convention. The main thing here is to abolish the law numbered 6284, which is the power of sanction. 6284, which victimizes women, children and families, must be canceled. As Muslims, we are against all forms of violence. We also wish that there should be no violence against not only our women, but also animals and plants. What we stand against is that both violence and sexization are separate violence," he said.

"IT DOESN'T MEAN IF THE LAW NUMBERED 6284 IS NOT ABOLISHED"

Researcher Author Sema Maraşlı, "As long as the law numbered 6284, the implementation law of the Istanbul Convention, is not repealed, the Istanbul Convention will actually be in practice, even if it is not apparently. After the cancellation of the contract, we waited to see whether it would be lifted in 6284, but the explanations about this issue were that 6284 would continue to be implemented and even more aggravated. In this case, the abolition of the Istanbul Convention seems like a political game. If they were sincere, they would have to abolish the 6284 enforcement law together," she said.

"IT DID NOT PROTECT WOMEN, INCREASED VIOLENCE MORE"

Dr. Uğur Balin evaluating the termination of the Istanbul Convention on behalf of the Fathers and Children Association (BABADER) and the World Children's Rights Association to our newspaper, "Everyone who believes in science must accept that the Istanbul Convention does not protect women. Because since 2011, when the mentioned contract was implemented without compromise, femicide has increased steadily and in a short time it has increased fivefold with the effect of the contract. The reason for this is still the contract answers us. In the aforementioned convention, gender expression rather than violence against women is mentioned in at least 23 places. Consequently, it is obvious that the contract does not include the protection of the family, but rather is built on LGBTI rights and sexist paradigms. Milli Gazete also made important publications in the name of raising awareness in the society. I wish that we can continue our useful work on behalf of society with the same consensus," he said.
