The contract of the consortium, in which IC İçtaş is a 50 percent partner, for the procurement, engineering and construction works of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, which is planned to meet 10 percent of Turkey's electricity needs when completed, was terminated on July 26. It was claimed that this termination made by Akkuyu Nuclear Corp., under the management of Russian Rosatom, caused delay in the delivery of the plant, which is planned to be commissioned in 2023, and chaos in its operation.
Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant construction, which is expected to be one of the main agenda items of the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit on September 15-16, continues to come up with new claims.
TSM ENERGY SENT A LETTER TO AKKUYU NÜKLEER CORP. TO CANCEL THE CARDS OF 7,000 TURKISH WORKERS
The Russian company TSM Energy, which signed a new contract after the attempt to disable Turkish main contractor IC İçtaş, sent a letter to Akkuyu Nuclear Corp. on August 30 to cancel the cards of 7,000 Turkish workers who gained experience in the construction of nuclear power plants and to prevent them from being taken to the construction site. In the letter sent by TSM Energy General Director E. Lisunov to Akkuyu Nuclear Corp. CEO A. Zoteeva, it was stated that a list of workers' names is also attached to the article. The gap resulting from the dismissal of Turkish employees is to be filled with illegal foreign nationals who do not have a work permit. It was claimed that work was started in a way that would pose a risk in occupational safety because occupational health and safety training was not provided. It is also claimed that non-standard production started with the prevention of the entry of the trained personnel to work in the construction of the nuclear power plant to the project site. It is claimed that after the termination of the contract, qualified personnel were dismissed, the business volume decreased by 90 percent, and the works performed were outside the quality standards.
It is also stated that as a result of the inspections to be carried out by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) in the construction of the power plant, all non-standard productions may be demolished and rebuilt in this process.
