Obama urged close cooperation in the fight against IS

President Barack Obama on Wednesday spoke by phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, urging close cooperation in the fight against the Islamic State (IS), the White House said in a statement

"Obama noted the need for close coordination between the United States and Turkey to build on these successes and to apply sustained pressure on ISIL in Syria to reduce threats to the United States, Turkey, and elsewhere" the statement said.
 
"Turkey’s contributions to the campaign, especially the support to Syrian local forces on clearing the Turkish-Syrian borders from IS was recognised" read the statement.
 
"Welcoming the continued dialogue of Turkish and Iraqi governments to determine how the Turkish support will be realised the coalition in the counter IS coalition in Iraq.
Affirming their strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, two leaders also agreed on the importance of denying PKK a safe haven in northern Iraq."
