Turkey, which is dependent on imports in agriculture, is about to run out of vegetable oil stocks.
With the headlines and news we made as the Milli Gazete, we drew attention to the oil prices, especially the liquid sunflower oil, and the wrong agricultural policies in our country.
Our dependence on Ukraine and Russia for raw materials in the production of sunflower oil caused a new crisis in Turkey with the outbreak of the war.
“WE HAVE COME TO THE POINT OF NOT FINDING RAW MATERIALS”
In the written statement made by the Vegetable Oil Manufacturers Association to the Ministry of Commerce Import General Directorate, it was emphasized that the raw material problems in the sector increased with the Ukraine-Russia War,
"The stocks of our country, including the market shelves, are sufficient until the end of March or mid-April. Currently, 15-16 ships of our industry ordered from Russia and Ukraine are waiting at the Black Sea ports. Oil prices, which were at the level of $ 1,400 two weeks ago, have climbed above $ 2,000 in the international markets. Considering at a further stage, we have left the price concerns aside and have come to the point of not being able to find raw materials," it was stated.
“FOOD EMBARGO HAS STARTED TO IMPLEMENT ON OUR COUNTRY”
In the continuation of the statement, which mentioned that Russia has almost captured the merchant ships in the Black Sea, "The Russian Federation still does not allow the exit of cargo ships in this region. From another point of view, Russia, which continues its trade by selling gas even to EU countries, which increase the embargo level to Russia day by day, started to impose a food embargo on our country, perhaps without realizing the current situation," it was said.
As summarized in the statement made by the Vegetable Oil Manufacturers Association, it is argued that the growing problem of agricultural raw materials in Turkey can be experienced not only in vegetable oil products, but also in many basic consumption items.
In the recent period, it has become clear how right he is in the remarkable news of the Milli Gazete on liquid sunflower oil, agricultural production and import dependency in agriculture.
In the food and energy crisis that awaits our country and even the world, we are wondering what the government will do in the upcoming crisis, which we warned with the headline: "Mr. Oil", "Mr. Oil became Pasha" so that Turkey can become a self-sufficient country in every field.
TURKEY, THE WORLD LEADER IN SUNFLOWER IMPORT
Despite the fertile lands, sunflower production, like many agricultural products, does not meet the needs of Turkey due to wrong agricultural policies.
Despite the production cost, due to the lack of government support, half of the need for sunflower, which is not the production choice of the farmer, is imported.
Turkey, which has become dependent on Russia, Ukraine and the Balkan countries for oil, imported 1 million 136 thousand tons of sunflower seeds in 2019 and 1.14 million tons in 2020.
