Currently, there are 314,000 detainees and convicts in total in 384 prisons with a capacity of 275,859.

If the permits are not extended, the excess capacity in the prisons will be at least 100,000.

While the situation of the prisons is obvious, it is wondered what kind of path the government will follow.

Prisoners who have been on leave for two years are going back to prison! Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the leaves of prisoners who have been in open prisons since 31 May 2020, which have been extended 12 times, will no longer be extended.

While it is on the agenda that 80,000 convicts will be sent back to prison after a two-year hiatus, those who do not return will be considered fugitives and a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

While the convict and his relatives, who received the news, stated that the established order will be disrupted again, it is a matter of curiosity what kind of measures will be taken in the prisons that are already above the capacity!

THE ESTABLISHED SYSTEM TO BE DESTROYED AGAIN

Due to the coronavirus epidemic, the leaves of prisoners who have been in open prisons since 31 May 2020, which have been extended 12 times, will no longer be extended.

When the permits are not extended again, 80,000 prisoners will be sent back to prison after a two-year hiatus, while those who do not return will be considered fugitives and an arrest warrant will be issued for them.

The fact that the convicts, who have been out for about two years and who have established families and order, will return to the prison again makes the convicts and their families think brooding.

EXCESS OF CAPACITY WILL EXCEED 100,000

While it is stated that approximately 200 thousand prisoners have benefited from the epidemic leave to date, 80,000 inmates will return to prison if the permits, which expire on May 31, are not extended.

According to the data of the Ministry of Justice, as of April 2022, there are a total of 384 penal institutions in Turkey, while the total capacity is 275 thousand 859.

However, there are 314 thousand detainees and convicts in total and approximately 30 thousand overcapacity in prisons.

If the permits are not extended, it is expected that there will be at least 100,000 excess capacity in prisons with the addition of 80,000 prisoners.

While the situation of the prisons is obvious, it is wondered what kind of path the government will follow.
