In addition to the determined amount, the increase rates applied by some private schools to ancillary services such as food, service, books and uniforms cause reactions from the parents, while the parents call for an inspection to the Ministry of National Education and state that the practices should be checked.

“THE CEILING RAISE OPENED THE WAY FOR HIGHER RAISES”

Stating that the parents' concern is to continue their children's education, Özgür Özkan, President of the Private School Parents Platform, pointed out that even the ceiling raise to be applied hurt the parents and said, “The Ministry limited the ceiling amount of raise, but with the determined limit, the prices of ancillary services increased and a burden was placed on the parents. Let alone bringing benefits, the ceiling hike put into practice paved the way for the application of larger raises to the parents. The Ministry of National Education should prevent practices other than the ceiling hike, and should prevent the regulations and the steps to perforate the ceiling hike.”

“HOW CAN PARENTS AFFORD THE FEES RECEIVED FROM ANCILLARY SERVICES?”

Underlining that parents could afford the education of their children more easily in the past, Özkan stated that the tariffs applied by the schools for ancillary services such as meals are against the economic conditions of the parents and said, “Parents want to continue to meet the private school fees with 30 percent of their current income, which they could afford 4 years ago with 30 percent of their income. For example, catering companies state that they receive the highest meal fee of 50-70 Turkish Liras (TL) per day. On the other hand, some schools require around 200-300 TL per day from parents. While trying to earn 100 percent from book fees, 100 percent from food and 100 percent from uniforms, which parent can afford it.”
