The paid teaching practice, which was put forward against the teacher shortage, continues to cause more victimizations… While the education system becomes a blackboard, not only students but also teachers are victims of the system. While problems arose in the system as a result of wrong practices in teacher appointments, this situation resulted in a shortage of around 700 thousand teachers waiting for appointment and nearly 150 thousand teachers shortage. The Ministry of National Education (MEB), on the other hand, continues to implement the paid teaching practice, which is a temporary solution instead of solving the existing teacher problems.
IT WAS SAID THAT 5,740 TL WILL BE PAID, BUT THE REALITY IS DIFFERENT
In the report of Türk-Egitim-Sen Union for the 2021-2022 academic year, it was stated that the number of paid teachers reached ‘86,668’. Announcing that a regulation has been made regarding the monthly salaries of the existing paid teachers, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “The wage of a teacher who attends classes for 30 hours a week rises from 3,400 Turkish Liras (TL) to 5,740 TL. The fee also rises to 7,400 TL over 40 hours.” However, in practice, this figure was replaced with deductions, causing payments to be deposited far below to the accounts.
A TEACHER WHO ATTENDS 120 HOURS CLASSES FOR A MONTH CAN RECEIVE 4,608 TL FEE
While paid teachers receive wages based on the hours they attend, the difference in lesson hours between branch teachers and classroom teachers is also reflected in their wages. The average lesson hours attended by classroom teachers and branch teachers vary between 50 and 120 hours. A paid teacher is charged 38 TL 40 kurus per class hour and 230 TL per day. A teacher who works 120 hours for a month can receive a monthly salary of 4,608 TL, although the minimum wage is 5,500.
THERE IS A PAID TEACHER WHO RECEIVES 2,523 TL FEE
When the data on the salary amounts of paid teachers in October are examined, the salary data of each teacher differs, it was noteworthy that salary amounts such as 2,523 TL, 2,530 TL, 3,454 TL, 4,016 TL, 4,332 TL were deposited to teachers’ accounts after the cuts. While the wages paid were generally below the minimum wage, it was not overlooked that the very few paid teachers received the wage of 5,740 TL announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
