The Palestinian government is planning a cabinet reshuffle soon, a government spokesman said Tuesday.

“No information is yet available about the date of the reshuffle,” Tarek Rishmawi told Anadolu Agency.

He said consultations are underway between Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas and Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah over the changes.

Majed Fetyani, a member of Abbas’s Fatah group, called on Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, to allow the Ramallah-based government to play its role in the territory.

“The ball is now in Hamas’s court to help heal the rift,” he told Anadolu Agency.

There was no comment from Hamas on Fetyani’s comments.

Hamdallah was first named a prime minister in 2013 and was tasked with forming a new government in May 2014.

In 2014, Hamas and Fatah agreed in principle to establish a unity government tasked with overseeing Palestinian legislative and presidential polls.

The unity government, however, has so far failed to assume a governing role in Gaza due to outstanding differences between the two rival factions.
