A delegation from Saudi Arabia has traveled to Sana'a, the Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled capital, in light of international and regional efforts to renew the ceasefire in Yemen.
The delegation from Saudi Arabia landed at Sana International Airport in the evening the previous day.
SAUDI ARABIA DELEGATION CAME TO SANA
Mukhtar Al-Rahbi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information of Yemen, reported that Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jabir, came to Sana'a at the head of the Saudi delegation, he did not give details.
Negotiations will be held to renew the ceasefire
Local sources noted that before this delegation, a delegation from Oman came to Sana'a and will hold talks with the Houthis on the re-establishment of the ceasefire.
In Yemen, the Iranian-backed Houthis have been in control of the capital Sana'a and some regions since September 2014.
CEASEFIRE DECLARED FOR TWO MONTHS AND EXTENDED TWICE
Coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia have been supporting the Yemeni government against the Houthis since March 2015.
UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg announced on April 2, 2022 that the Yemeni government and the Houthis agreed to suspend air, land and sea operations for 2 months, and the ceasefire was later extended twice.
The ceasefire between the parties, which lasted for 6 months, ended on October 2, 2022.
The first official meeting at the level of foreign ministers between Tehran and Riyadh after 7 years was held in Beijing recently.
In the joint statement released after the meeting, it was stated that the two countries agreed to expand their cooperation in all fields.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Emir Abdullahiyan described his meeting with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan as "positive".
