Eid al-Fitr is over. While many families visit their elders for the holiday, retired elders are worried about economic problems.
The holiday bonus given to retirees was paid as 3,000 TL, but the bonus, which was insufficient in the face of economic data, was met with reaction.
Zeynel Abidin Ergen, Chairman of the Union of All Pensioners, stated that the holiday was difficult for retirees.
"Our retirees had a bittersweet holiday. We expected that the needs of our retirees would be met with a retirement bonus. But the bonus given was insufficient. The holiday was a disappointment for retirees," Ergen said.
“OUR PENSIONERS CANNOT LEAVE THE HOME”
Pointing out that holidays are valuable for the Turkish society, All Pensioners' Union Chairman Zeynel Abidin Ergen stated that retirees are family elders.
"Retirees are visited as family elders during holidays. We have a tradition of hosting visitors and giving pocket money to our grandchildren. Even this tradition could not be fulfilled with the minimum pension of 10 thousand lira. Our retirees stayed home during the holiday. They cannot leave the house," Ergen added.
ECONOMIC CONDITIONS BLOCKED THE EID
Stating that retirees are overwhelmed with problems, Ergen pointed out the high cost of living.
"Our retirees had a bittersweet holiday. We expected that the needs of our retirees would be met with a retirement bonus. But the bonus given was insufficient. Our retirees were crushed under the high cost of living. These economic conditions prevented the holiday. The holiday was a disappointment for retirees," Ergen stated.
