Police teams continue their inspections within the scope of the “Cooperation Protocol for Increasing Protective and Preventive Service Measures Regarding the Safety of Educational Processes of Children” signed between the Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Interior and the Union of Municipalities of Turkey.
As part of the protocol, Istanbul police assigned fixed personnel to some of the 2 thousand 695 schools in the city, and secure education coordination personnel to other schools.
Mobile School Teams (MOT), which started to work in 39 districts of the city in the 2017-2018 academic year, also continue their inspections without interruption.
The teams, which started inspections after the start of the new academic year under the coordination of the Istanbul Children's Branch Directorate, immediately intervene in any negativities that may occur and maintain the atmosphere of peace around the school.
DESTROYED BUILDINGS AROUND THE SCHOOL ARE ALSO INSPECTED
The teams, which have carried out inspections in all 2 thousand 695 schools with the support of all teams, especially the district police directorates, Preventive Services Branch Directorate, Community Supported Branch Directorate, Public Security Branch Directorate, and Narcotics Branch Directorate, have carried out inspections of 221 thousand 57 people until 31 October. In this way, 1026 suspects with a search record were caught. Within the scope of the application, administrative action was taken against 2 thousand 243 people and judicial action was taken against 891 people, while 28 thousand 941 public places were inspected. Police teams, which took action on 35 of them, also checked 2,284 derelict buildings around the school.
During the inspections, 28 unlicensed pistols, 2 shotguns, 146 bullets, 16 blank pistols, various amounts of drugs, 3,878 packs of illegal cigarettes, 52,990 tobacco-filled macarons, tobacco products, electronic cigarettes and materials were seized.
The teams also checked 26,650 vehicles around the school, 1728 of them, and 301 of the 9,957 school buses inspected.
POLICE DIRECTORS VISITED SCHOOLS
Following the instructions of Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş, deputy provincial police chiefs and branch managers visit all schools in Istanbul and provide on-site information flow. The police chiefs, who meet with the school principals one-on-one and work on the contributions that can be made to the schools as well as the safety measures, organize informative seminars in line with the requests and demands. The police chiefs on duty contribute to the awareness of the students by assigning expert police officers to informative seminars in many fields, from the field of narcotics to cybercrime, from safe internet use to friend relations.
