The politicization of the agenda and the discourses of politicians in Turkey have led to an escalation of social polarization in recent years. The political polarization that has penetrated into the family has come to the point where it shakes the foundations of our social values. With the polarization fueled by our country's economic problems, livelihoods and future concerns, citizens are being used as tools for political issues. While the point the society is brought, caused anxiety, the fact that politics became a part of our daily life, has become a psychological and sociological phenomenon. Experts made important statements to the Milli Gazete on the subject.
“BOTH WHO KNOWS AND NOT KNOW TALK ABOUT POLITICS”
Sociologist Türkan Çiğdem stated that the cause of social polarization by politics can have dangerous consequences and said, “Never in history has politics been on the agenda of the society so much. Previously, people were concerned with how politicians serve society, wouldn't worry about how politics is done. Now both those who know and those who don't, are talking about politics."
“EVERYONE IS UNHAPPY, EVERYONE IS ANXIOUS FOR THE FUTURE”
Specialist Psychologist Gülten Demirdöven drew attention to the living conditions in Turkey and said, “People have more concerns about daily life than politics. I think job anxiety and food anxiety should come before politics. Political issues should not be mixed into family unity. Even within the family, people may have different opinions. It is not right to mix politics in the family. When I say family, I am not just talking about the relationship between spouses; I am talking about all the members of a family such as children, close relatives, sisters-in-law, uncles. Apart from politics, the problem of life that we have recently encountered in our lives, should be on people's agenda. Everyone is unhappy, everyone is worried about the future. Politics is the business of politicians, people need to focus on their own daily problems."
“POLITICIANS MUST BE QUALIFIED”
Gülten Demirdöven, reminding that political debates in society fueled polarization, “We need to remember the social events that took place in the 1980s. Our cause should be to protect physical and mental health and to provide for our family in the best way possible. Unfortunately, the majority of our citizens are currently acting on hearsay politics. Politicians should also be qualified," she added.
“POLITICIANS SHOULD SEE THE APPROACHING DANGER ON BEHALF OF SOCIETY”
“Beliefs and opinions may differ, but the belief in service should be common. The segregation, radical decisions and debates that developed in the administration have also spread to the society. These conflicts can be seen even within the nuclear family. Is politics a tool or an purpose? As a society, we go beyond the purpose of politics and enter into a wrong attitude. Let's not feed on chaos, conflict and stress anymore. There is no life left to breathe materially and spiritually in society. It may not be a good sign for the limits to be pushed so much. The biggest feature of politicians is to foresee the problems. Politicians need to see the approaching danger for the society," Türkan Çiğdem added.
