Students, who got back to school after the pandemic, are now having food problems after the housing problem. With the opening of schools, the students, who had a shortage of places to stay for weeks, solved the problem of accommodation, especially in metropolitan cities, with the involvement of municipalities. Those who are luckier than those who have housing problems and settle in KYK dormitories, suffer from small portions and high-priced meals. Students, who are given support of 6 TL for breakfast and 13 TL for dinner, have to pay at least 10 TL in order to be able to fill their stomachs.
GOVERNMENTAL SUPPORT NOT ENOUGH TO BUY BREAD AND WATER
The 13 TL support given by the state ends when a student staying in KYK dormitory gets stew and rice for dinner. When he/she wants to take bread with him/her, he/she has to pay 50 Kurus for a small bread and 1 TL for water. Having a salad or ayran for dinner is a luxury for a student. In KYK dormitory, a student has to pay 9 TL for main course-vegetable dishes, 4 TL for rice, 4.5 TL for pasta, 4.5 TL for soup, 4.5 TL for dessert, and 2 TL for ayran.
This year, students were given a total of 19 TL in the morning and evening as state support, while last year they were given 16 TL. While there was a total increase of 3 liras in government support between last year and this year, the increase in food prices drew attention.
