Although the high turnout caused a change in the rankings of the candidates, 3.5 million students started to make their choices as of yesterday. Experts made statements to our newspaper about the preferences.
With the removal of the dams, the selection period for the 2022 Higher Education Institution Exam (YKS) exam, which broke the record for applications in history, started as of yesterday.
While the candidate students were making comparisons with the scores they achieved and the rankings they achieved, and the latest status of the departments they wanted to go to, the experts who stated that the system would be much different this year compared to previous years due to the abolition of the minimum passing score and the high participation rate warned the candidate students.
With the high applications experienced with the removal of the minimum passing score, there were changes in all rankings. The student who made the same net last year fell further behind in the ranking with the same net this year.
While priority was given to rankings in the preferences, this year's high number of applications disrupted the supply-demand balance. While this situation caused fear in the candidates, experts recommended that the rankings should be taken as a basis for the preferences.
Noting that there are serious changes especially in the rankings compared to previous years, Expert Psychological Counselor Oğuz Özat reminded that the thresholds were lifted this year.
"For example, last year; The student who ranked 40 thousand in the A score was able to enter the order of 60-70 thousand with the same score this year. University exams are based on rankings, not points. Among those who prefer the relevant department, the person with the highest quota can be placed in the department. Therefore, the only criterion for the student is ranking. The most important source that we will measure is the rankings of the previous year and the changing employment related to the department, new universities opened and whether there is an increase in the quota," he said.
“RANKINGS ARE IMPORTANT”
Esma Günaydın, Psychological Counselor and Guidance Teacher, drew attention to the fact that in the exam held this year, a backlog awaits the students due to ranking.
"This year, the difference between the points and the rankings is striking. As the results became clear, the fear of collapse gripped the students. In its simplest terms, YKS backlog is the situation where the score is not enough to enter the university department due to ranking. Candidates who want to make the right choice; In their preferences, 50 percent more and 50 percent less of the success order should be taken into consideration. The removal of the minimum passing score made more candidates choose, but due to the system applied, rankings in YKS are important. The rankings of the candidates will be effective in placements this year, as in previous years," she said.
