While teachers working in the private sector continued to work with problems such as low wages, under-insurance and mobbing, their grievances increased with the abolished base salary regulation in 2014.

There is no support from the government for the base salary regulation, which was brought to the agenda with the bill submitted by the opposition parties in the Parliament at the end of 2022. The bill was also included in the promises of political parties during the election process. Teachers continue to wait for the regulation.

“MANAGERS RESPONSIBLE FOR EDUCATION HAVE TIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH BOSSES”

Pointing out that teachers working in private education institutions are sacrificed to the wheel of exploitation, Private Sector Teachers' Union Press Secretary Umut Erkurt stated that teachers are affected by every change in law and regulation.

"Hundreds of thousands of teachers are waiting for appointment in the country, and as a well-known fact, tens of thousands of staff positions arise in public schools every year. The appointment made every year does not even reach a quarter of what is required, but the universities opened in 81 provinces continue to produce thousands of graduates every year. Recent graduates pile on the number of former graduates. The result: tens of thousands of new 'cheap labor' to capital and bosses. The Ministry of National Education, that is, the administrators responsible for education of those who govern this country, have a close relationship with the bosses and capital," he said.

Drawing attention to the abolition of base salary rights in 2014, Erkurt stated that this regulation was a usurpation of rights.

"Do not make appointments when there are tens of thousands of staff vacancies, and remove the provision from the Private Educational Institutions Law that says our salaries are equivalent to teachers in public schools. Education has been handed over to lack of supervision, incompetence, lack of qualification, and greed for profit by the legislators of this country and the Ministry of National Education itself. Quality education; It is inaccessible for poor and even middle-income people," he added.

“It was said that the main interlocutor was the Turkish Grand National Assembly”

Reminding that they carried out an action in front of the Turkish Private Schools Association (TÖZOK) Headquarters on August 30, Erkurt stated that they had come together with many authorized figures on this issue in the past and conveyed their problems.

"All those responsible for the Ministry of Education and education could not give a negative answer regarding our rightness regarding the base salary because our rightness is clearly obvious. There is a violation of the law and usurpation of the law. However, none of them took the necessary responsibility. They ignored the demands of teachers working in private education institutions. In every meeting we had, they said that the main interlocutor was the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye," he said.

“WE WILL ANNOUNCE THE RIGHTEOUS CRY ON OCTOBER 1”

Stating that three different parties submitted legislative proposals, Erkurt noted that the bills were ignored.

Erkurt emphasized that teachers no longer want to be ignored.

"If it is the Parliament that is constantly addressed to us, we will announce the justified cry of the education workers working in private educational institutions all over Turkey in the Parliament on Sunday, October 1, which is the opening day of the Parliament this year," he stated.
