After the Kahovka Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) hit in Ukraine, environmental problems emerged in the region. An image of mass fish death was shared in the village of Maryanske on the banks of the Dnipro River in the Dnipropetrovsk region on social media.
In the image, there is a large number of fish in a large area where the water recedes, some of them dead and some of them struggling with thirst. Social media users claimed that the mass fish death occurred as a result of the hit of the Kahovka Dam.
Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, shared the image in question on his social media account and used the phrase "Man-made environmental massacre by Russia".
THE PROBLEM OF DRINKING WATER HAS ALSO OCCURRED
As a result of the explosion of the Kahovka Dam, the problem of drinking water occurred in the flooded areas. Social media users shared an image of residents of the city of Kriviy Rig in the Dnipropetrovsk region buying large bottles of water from shops in bulk. In the footage, shelves containing large bottles of water were emptied. Ukrainian authorities announced that they have started work to provide drinking water for users from the Kahovka Dam.
150 TONS OF FUEL MIXED IN THE DNIPRO RIVER
Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klimenko, stated in a statement yesterday that 150 tons of fuel oil was mixed into the Dnipro River due to the destruction of the machinery section of Kahovka HEPP. Klimenko stated that the groups with the necessary equipment have started to work to eliminate the possible consequences of the environmental disaster. As a result of the hit of Kahovka HEPP, approximately 80 settlements were declared as flood zones, and 23 settlements were flooded within 24 hours after the dam was struck.
