Expressing that the children staying in orphanages are around 14,000 according to official figures, Association of Protection, Help and Social Solidarity of Dormitory Leavers (YADER) Chairman Salih Çetin stated that the young people who grow up in the dormitories have been employed in public institutions since the past, and said, “With the services our brothers have done in the public sector, we bring new generations to the society, and distance them from their own problems to a little bit. But they also have demands.”
Stating that children in need of protection face many problems in their lives, Çetin stated that they have difficulties in adapting to life when they leave the dormitories, and added, “Many of our brothers and sisters have difficulties, they face social risks, because they do not have a financial situation, there are some who cannot start their civil service for very sad reasons. They demand a one-time employment right in the public sector. Apart from this, those who leave the dormitories for various reasons are experiencing losses in their employment rights in the public sector, and they demand that these young people be given this right as well.”
APPOINTMENTS SUITABLE FOR THE TITLE MUST BE MADE
Noting that there are young people who have completed their education and earned a title while trying to hold on to life in the dormitories, Çetin called for these titles to be taken as a basis in appointments, and said, “In a law enacted in 2018, institutions were authorized to assign titles suitable for the education they received. Many young people were negatively affected because some institutions did not use this authority properly. This problem should be resolved and grievances should be eliminated.”
