Two members of the Hellenic (Greek) House of Representatives who served in the US Congress and Senate, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez and the member of the House of Representatives Gus Michael Bilirakis, and the then fledgling Delaware Senator Joe Biden, after the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation - At the beginning of 1975, with the great contribution of Israel, they had the decision to impose an arms embargo on Turkey from the USA.
The embargo brought the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) to the point of collapse since all the equipment, weapons, tanks, planes and their ammunition used by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) were made in the USA and indirectly dependent on the USA. This decision, approved by President Gerald Ford, was overturned by Jimmy Carter 3 years later. The reason for the removal was that the government of the Republic of Turkey took control of all American bases within its borders, with the exception of Incirlik.
Although this embargo of the USA hurt the TSK and caused the treasury to buy spare parts from the black market, it was in Turkey's interest in the long run. It formed the basis for Turkey to choose the path of independence by producing its own weapon at any cost.
They say history repeats itself. Today, the same people (Bilirakis and Menendez) took 25 senators and members of the House of Representatives with them and sent a letter to the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, asking him to publish a report on the results of Turkey's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle industry. Their aim is to impose an embargo on Turkey and to block the production and export of UAVs.
The effective, deterrent and successful use of Turkish UAVs in the Azerbaijan-Armenia war in Karabakh, against the PKK and YPG in Syria and Iraq, and against Haftar's forces in Libya reveals the main reason for this embargo event. On the other hand, they want to impose an embargo on Turkey due to the fact that 10 different parts they claim to be used in the UAVs produced by Bayraktar were produced in the USA or in another country by US companies, and Turkey will withdraw from the production of UAVs that have radically changed such war technologies. be forced out!
In fact, all the fear of the USA and Israel is that Turkey, Pakistan and Russia made a joint production agreement for war UAVs and the superiority of UAVs slipped from their hands. The Pentagon realizes that it is too late on this issue. For this reason, it supports the application of all kinds of restrictions, including economic embargo, to Turkey.
The introductory part of the letter that the said Hellenic Senator and members of the House of Representatives jointly sent to the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, reveals very interesting and important information to me.
The translation of the introduction - in my English - is exactly as follows: “We are writing to express our concern over Turkey's Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (SİHA) program, which is destabilizing many parts of the world and threatening US interests, allies and partners.”
In my opinion, this introduction reveals all the concerns of the Hellenic Senators and members of the House of Representatives, or rather of Greece and Israel.
If, after a certain period of time, the Congress decides to impose an embargo on Turkey in line with this letter, the person who will sign is President Joe Biden. Biden, one of the three creators of the 1975 US embargo... I think he also learns that Turkey is not the old Turkey in response to his signing of definitive signatures...
