Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades began to be crushed under the protests and criticisms from the Greek Cypriot people after the TRNC Government took the decision to open the closed Maras and put it into practice. Because, following the Maras decision, they were very upset when the European Union and the United States of America, whom they trusted and relied on for centuries, did not apply political or economic pressure on Turkey. Greek leader Anastasiades was also declared a scapegoat.

In order to ward off this defeat and change the agenda, Anastasiades raised the issue of "Disappearances", visited Egypt, and sent the Greek National Guard, which was looking for a way to escape the Mehmetçik, to participate in the military exercise organized by Egypt. He announced that he would start drilling activities in the "Exclusive Economic Zone" (EEZ), which was declared unilaterally by the Greek Cypriot administration in the Eastern Mediterranean, in order to bring the EU and Turkey face to face and create a political crisis.

Behind this courage, Ursula Von der Leyen, President of the European Union (EU) Commission, said in a phone call with Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades, "If it does not reduce the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean and end illegal activities against Cyprus, the EU will take meassures against Turkey." How true this speech is is unknown. Leyen did not confirm this statement.

Even though the Greeks were bride and groom by looking at Leyen's words, German Chancellor (Prime Minister) Merkel said, "The steps of Turkey and Greece on Cyprus have made the relationship difficult. It will take patience to resolve the differences. This tension between the two countries did not discourage us” and the words “We will further our cooperation with Turkey” are much more important than the words of the President of the EU Commission.

Another factor that encouraged the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades to stir things up is that Victoria Nuland, the Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the USA, stated that they do not accept the two-state solution that Turkey has brought to the agenda regarding Cyprus recently, and President Joe Biden's He said he was determined to uphold the sanctions imposed on the purchase of the S-400 missile defense system from Russia.

Embracing this statement with all his might, Anastasiades sought to set the EU, the USA and Turkey against each other, to regain his reputation among the Greeks and to get a share from it.

The fact that Anastasiades, a shallow politician, believed these words that were said for him to hear and be pleased, and decided to continue drilling activities against Turkey, will result in adding a new one to the irrevocable losses of the Greeks.

In my opinion, this inexperienced behavior of Anastasiadis led to the opening of the 3rd zone in Maraş, the seismic research and drilling vessels registered in Turkey and the flag of Turkey to conduct seismic surveys in the Continental Shelf and Exclusive Economic Zone of Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean and will be found. It will also lead to the start of drilling works in natural gas reserve regions.

So foolish head will suffer, as always. Just like on September 9, 1922, they lost one third of the island of Cyprus, which they managed to take under their rule with political footwork, on August 16, 1974...
