While our country was mourned by earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş two weeks ago, severe earthquakes occurred in Hatay one after another on Monday evening.

While the earthquake issue has become the main agenda item in Turkey, the fear of the possible 'Great Istanbul Earthquake' remains in our hearts.

Expert Prof. Dr. Süleyman Pampal, who made statements to Milli Gazete about the possible “big Istanbul earthquake”, used very important statements.

Noting that they expect the possible "Great Istanbul earthquake" to occur within 5-6 years, with a magnitude greater than 7, Süleyman Pampal stated that it was too late to prepare for the earthquake.

While Pampal also stated that the zoning amnesty was a very wrong step.

"Unstable buildings were licensed. Zoning amnesty is murder. Who is responsible for them?" Pampal asked.

“WE EXPECT IT TO BE BIGGER THAN 7”

Süleyman Pampal, in his statements to our newspaper, said that a possible "big Istanbul earthquake" will be more severe than the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay.

Stating that they expect the earthquake expected to be in Istanbul to be more than 7 magnitude, Pampal said, "The Central Marmara Fault, which was broken in 1776, will break again. It seems certain that the earthquake will be more than 7 magnitude."

“IT WILL PROBABLY BE IN 5-6 YEARS”

Expressing that a possible “big Istanbul earthquake” will most likely take place in 5-6 years, Pampal emphasized that the time for Istanbul is shortened.

Pampal, on the subject, "The recurrence period of the earthquake in Istanbul is 250 years. This shows that there is a time frame of 5-6 years ahead of us. Istanbul's building stock is very bad. The zoning amnesty was a very wrong step. Unstable buildings were licensed. Zoning amnesty is murder. Who is responsible for them?" he added.

“LATE TO PREPARE FOR THE EARTHQUAKE”

Making critical statements to the Milli Gazete, Süleyman Pampal stated that they expect 50 thousand buildings to be demolished or severely damaged in the most optimistic scenario in Istanbul.

Expressing that they are very afraid of the effects of the possible "big Istanbul earthquake", Pampal said, "It was too late to prepare for the earthquake. In Istanbul, they are now trying to empty the schools and make them prepared. I said, 'Good morning!' I say. How many years have passed since 1999?"
