DEMANDED CLOSING OF REFAH PARTY AND A POLITICAL BAN TO ERBAKAN HODJA

Months after the postmodern coup, which went down in Turkey's recent political history as the February 28 coup and was stated to last for many years in terms of impact, the Welfare Party was closed and its leaders were banned from politics.

Milli Görüş leaders late Prof. Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, Şevket Kazan, Ahmet Tekdal, Şevki Yılmaz, Hasan Hüseyin Ceylan and İbrahim Halil Çelik were banned from politics for 5 years.

In the indictment prepared by the Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of the time, Vural Savaş, for "acts contrary to the principle of the secular republic", the Welfare Party program included 'to provide spiritual development', 'Establish a Just Order', 'To realize heavy industry', 'to increase relations with Islamic countries', ' Policies such as 'removing the interest' were seen as the justification for the closure case.

On the other hand, for the first time in Turkish political history, a political party faced a closure case while in power. With the disintegration of the coalition, the trial process was accelerated, and the trial took 8 months.

SAVAŞ ALSO FILED A CASE AGAINST FAZILET PARTY

The politicians, who started to work on establishing a new party after the events, established the Virtue Party right after the Welfare Party was closed. Recai Kutan was elected as the chairman of the party, which was founded under the chairmanship of İsmail Alptekin. Vural Savaş emerged once again after the Virtue Party Deputy Merve Kavakçı entered the Parliament wearing a headscarf.

Vural Savaş, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, filed a lawsuit against the party. In the indictment, it was stated that the banned politicians could not be party leaders, that the party had become a focus against secularism, and that the meeting of Milli Gorus leader Necmettin Erbakan with the Fazilet Parti members was justified.

After a period of close to 4 years, the Virtue Party was also closed. Vural Savaş, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals, had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Ankara for a while. The body of Savaş will be buried on Thursday, February 16, after the noon prayer in the mosque in Ankara Gölbaşı Cemetery.
