The Provincial Mufti Consultation Meeting, which came together in Ankara with the work carried out by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB), came to an end. In the Final Declaration read by Head of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş, the emphasis on family came to the fore, and there was also a call to protect the youth against abusive structures.
“THERE IS A CRISIS OF MORALITY AND CIVILIZATION”
Emphasizing that there is a crisis of ‘morality and civilization’ on the axis of ‘meaning and values’ in the background of the social, political, economic and environmental problems that surround the world, Erbaş said, "Unfortunately, the spiritual aspect of human beings and the transcendent dimension of existence have been neglected in the conception of life of the modern period. As a result, the preservation of the virtues became more difficult with the driftings on the ground of moral values. Today, humanity, on the one hand, wastage, selfishness and consumerism; on the other hand, it is stuck in the grip of serious social problems that can be described as hunger, poverty and misery.”
“WEAKNESSES TAKE THE FAMILY CAPTIVE”
In the final declaration, stating the importance of the family, Erbaş emphasized that the family has a priority place in the construction of a virtuous and peaceful society, “Family is the most basic school and the strongest center in the education of faith, morality and worship. However, it is a fact that the family institution, whose meaning is being questioned today, is facing serious threats. As a result of ignoring values such as love, respect, loyalty and responsibility, weaknesses such as neglect, apathy and selfishness take the family captive. Thus, the family, which should be the home of peace, mercy and affection, can become the focus of problems, even violence and tragedies. Therefore, services to protect, strengthen and support the family have vital importance today. It is our most fundamental duty to take a collective stance against understandings and approaches that negatively affect, weaken and render the family dysfunctional,” Ali Erbaş added.
