While approximately 13.5 million people in the region hit by the earthquakes were affected both physically and emotionally by the disaster, the whole of Turkey was also mobilized.
Psychologist Servet Aşan, Member of the Board of Directors, made statements about the work of the Turkish Psychological Association, which started to work on the emotional wounds on earthquake victims.
Aşan stated that it is important for the citizens in the region to receive professional support and that this support should be long-term.
"7,500 VOLUNTEERS APPLIED FOR THE STUDIES"
Stating that they put psychological support programs into effect after the disasters experienced in the past, Aşan stated that after the 1999 Gölcük earthquake, they carried out psychological support activities in the regions in all disasters experienced until today.
"AFAD and other government institutions are working in coordination with our experienced and experienced psychologists. Currently, 7,500 volunteers from many cities, especially Kahramanmaraş and surrounding cities, have applied to participate in psycho-social support activities," Aşan said.
"PSYCHO-SOCIAL SUPPORT TO LAST FOR LONG-TERM"
Stating that the reports were examined in detail, Aşan stated that the support for the citizens in the region will continue.
"We are trying to move forward with careful steps. Psycho-social support will be long-term. We know that it will not be a one-week or one-month psycho-social support, but a much longer-term support," Aşan added.
