While the New Democracy Party led by Kiryakos Mitsotakis, who has been serving as the prime minister for four years, emerged victorious from the general elections held in Greece, the rising racist right won the right to be represented by 3 parties in the parliament.
According to the data announced by the Ministry of Interior, 99.69 percent of the ballot boxes were opened and the New Democracy Party obtained 158 deputies in the 300-seat parliament with 40.55 percent.
The Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA) secured 48 seats with 17.84 percent of the vote, making it the main opposition.
The PASOK-KINAL alliance was 11.85 percent with 32 percent, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) with 7.69 percent with 20 percent, the Greek Solution Party with 12 percent with 4.44 percent, the Victory Party with 3.69 percent with 10, the Freedom Watch Party with 3.17 percent. He became the owner of 8 seats in parliament.
The racist Spartans Party, whose support was declared by former Golden Dawn Member of Parliament Ilias Kasidiaris, who was not allowed to participate in the elections by the Greek judiciary, succeeded in getting 12 deputies to the parliament with 4.64 percent of the vote.
Thus, the number of parties represented in the parliament in Greece, where the election threshold is 3 percent, became 8.
The entry of the Zafer, Greek Solution and Spartans parties, which stand out with their ultra-nationalist and religion-based rhetoric, to the parliament with a total of 34 deputies led to comments that the far right is on the rise in the country.
THE FAR-RIGHT PARTY IN PARLIAMENT WITHOUT EVEN HAVING A PARTY OFFICE
The Spartans Party, which Kasidiaris announced to support just before the June 21 elections, made a surprise exit and received 4.64 percent of the vote. Vasilis Stingas, the leader of the party, which does not even have an official office yet, used the office allocated by one of the party members to make a press statement in which he thanked Kasidiaris.
The rate of votes New Democracy received was interpreted in the Greek press as "a great victory for the party and Mitsotakis". In the meantime, Tsipras evaluated the election results as a great defeat and stated that a change is needed in the party cadres from head to toe and declared that he would evaluate the situation of the party members in the democratic process.
