Despite the increasing population of Turkey, wheat production did not increase and decreased over the years. A significant portion of the need for basic products such as sunflower, corn and cotton is met by imports.
While Turkey's import item in agricultural products is increasing, its position as an importer, especially in strategic products, also jeopardizes the food security of our country.
SUCCESS IN CHICKPEA CAN BE FOUND IN OTHER PRODUCTS
Turkey can achieve its success in chickpeas in other products as well. While the import item increased rapidly even in chickpea due to the wrong policies implemented, the expansion of cultivation areas with the support given in recent years has decreased Turkey's imports and increased its exports.
WE ARE DEPENDENT ON BRAZIL AND URUGUAY IN RED MEAT
The lack of enough improvement studies and the very high cost of feed inputs undermine the production in livestock, while increasing the import item in the cattle. Breeding females are mainly imported from European countries, while livestock animals are imported from Brazil and imported from Uruguay. Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland lead the way in red meat imports.
