Religious education was discussed in a panel with the participation of two former ministers of education and two former heads of religious affairs. Ömer Dinçer, Nabi Avcı, Mehmet Görmez and Ali Bardakoğlu attended the program.

EDUCATION SYSTEMS ARE INQUIRED

Noting that restructuring in religious education has been a frequent issue since the past, Nabi Avcı, "The need and quality of religious education has not changed. As a result of developments in information technology, we have entered a period in which all education systems should be questioned. The school is an institution derived from the Industrial Revolution, and corporate education was designed with a factory layout logic. With the pandemic, we have seen that the understanding of school in the Industrial Revolution is over, that the education system is constantly changing within itself, and that education is possible in another way," he said.

OUR EDUCATION APPROACH IS AWAY FROM LIFE

Noting that Islam is a religion within life, Ali Bardakoğlu, "When we don't have a religious understanding out of life, we don't have an understanding of education in life. However, we have a religion that is part of life. In its current form, religious education constitutes a pillar of the secular project. We have an understanding of producing alternatives to all education with religious education. We create a second world with religious education. The ancients had no such understanding and life was one," he said.

THE EDUCATION SYSTEM BASED ON IDEOLOGY SHOULD BE INQUIRED

Emphasizing that the education system in the country is established on an ideological structure, Ömer Dinçer, "We need to question the curriculum-oriented education system. In developed countries, the curriculum gives the teacher initiative, but we give the teacher the curriculum and have it inspected. Ideological attitude should be avoided in religious education," he said.

WE CANNOT REACH YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT THE SUBJECTS THAT THEY CARE

Underlining that young people cannot be reached about the ideas and ideas that young people care about, Görmez, "One of the most important things for young people is freedom. They think that our religious education will take their freedom from them. However, the aim of religion is freedom. The greatest freedom religion offers to man; to get rid of his desires. Another thing they care about is happiness. They think that the religion in the family does not give them happiness. Another thing they care about is the issue of evil. We cannot explain the causes of evil on earth well enough. Justice is also one of the most important things for young people. When they see that a religious person is turning away from justice, young people also move away from religion. The youth entered a new period. They have new questions and inquiries. Taking these into account, an educational paradigm must be reconstructed," he said.

"THERE IS A SERIOUS LOSS OF QUALITY IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION"

In the 'Religious Education Report Discussion Panel' program, which started with the speech of Mehmet Görmez, it was stated that there is a need for a religious education that embraces and integrates the whole society without mass arbitration and that can meet the religious, spiritual and moral needs of all students.

"When we consider the institutionalized religious education institutions as a whole, we are faced with a cyclical weakening and serious loss of quality. If measures are not taken as soon as possible, cyclical weakening and loss of quality will inevitably continue as the quantity increases," Görmez said.
