Saadet Party Konya Deputy and Head of Youth Branch Abdulkadir Karaduman brought the exorbitantly increasing rent prices to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Karaduman, who submitted a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey with the request of the Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Murat Kurum, stated that the citizens had difficulties in finding apartments for rent at affordable prices, and asked if the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization had any work on increasing prices.

"THERE ARE NEAR PERCENTAGE INCREASE IN RENT"

Karaduman said that rental prices have climbed with the pandemic.

"According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, as of July, there has been a 15.15 percent increase in consumer prices compared to the twelve-month averages, and accordingly, while the landlords can legally increase their tenants by a maximum of 15.15 percent, the rents are 55 percent, even 100 percent in some places. We see that there is an excessive increase in rental prices. In metropolitan cities, especially in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, and in many provinces of our country, there are exorbitant rent increases, it has become difficult to find a rental house, and the most basic need, housing expenses, is burning in the pocket. With the increase in rents of millions of our citizens who could not live on due to the high cost of living, the problem of accommodation arose," Karaduman said.

DOES THE MINISTRY HAVE ANY WORK?

Karaduman asked the Minister of Urbanization 6 questions about the increasing rent prices to the Institution and asked the following:

"Why are rents increasing? What are the criteria for rent increases? Do you have any work to prevent this increase? Will there be a mechanism to monitor rents? What is the number of residences rented in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Antalya, Kocaeli, Konya and Gaziantep in the last five years according to provinces and years? By how much percent have the prices of the houses rented in these provinces increased in the last year? What is the number of apartments built in the last five years until September 15, 2021? How many of them have been sold, how many have been rented, and how many are vacant? As of September 15, 2021, how many apartments are for rent, for sale and vacant by provinces? How many of the houses rented for the purpose of residence have tax registration? Will there be any regulation regarding the change of the rent payment by hand and the rental status of the flats in the non-residential buildings?"
