Tariq Shafii, a Turkish citizen who has been living in Saudi Arabia for a while, was arrested by the police on December 22, 2022, when his house was raided.
The passport and identity of Shafii, a respected businessman who is an economics and finance expert and provides training and consultancy activities in this field, was seized.
While there was no news from Tariq Shafii in the first period, Shafii's wife was informed after two weeks.
Tariq Shafii, who has been held in the dungeons of Saudi Arabia since December 22, 2022, told the Saudi Arabian authorities that he is a Turkish citizen, that he has no contact with Egypt for more than 10 years, that he did not have any action that would be the subject of an investigation or lawsuit while he was there, and that he lived as a Turkish citizen in Saudi Arabia. Although he repeatedly declared that he spent on consulting and training activities for business people in Arabia, this solution did not come.
IF HE IS NOT RESCUED, HE WILL BE SENT TO EGYPT
After the arrest of Tariq Shafii, the Saudi Arabian authorities, who met with his family, declared that there was a high possibility that Shafii would be sent to Egypt.
Legally, even if a deportation decision has been made, there are concerns that Shafii, who should be able to choose the country he wants to go to in case of deportation, will be executed if he is extradited to Egypt.
According to Turkish laws, no one can be extradited, handed over or deported to regions where there is a risk of torture and ill-treatment or the right to life, according to international conventions to which Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are a party.
“HIS HEALTH CONDITION IS VERY BAD”
Aber Shafii, the daughter of Tariq Shafii, who is a Turkish citizen, made a statement to the Milli Gazete about her father's condition. Aber Shafii, on the subject, "Eight months ago they arrested my father. We didn't know what was going on at first. Two weeks later we were able to have a short conversation with my father. My mother looked for him everywhere and was finally able to find the prison where he was held. They did not allow the visit before. When they wanted to get information, they said they would send my father to Egypt. For eight months, my mother was able to visit my father several times. My father's health is very bad. He can't take his meds. He dropped from 81 kilos to 60 kilos. We are very worried about my father's healt," she said.
Aber Shafii, who wanted her father Tariq Shafii to be rescued from the dungeons of Saudi Arabia and his surrender to Egypt,
"If my father is given to Egypt, he will be executed. Please bring him to Turkey. My father did not commit any crime, he did not do anything against the law. There is no court, my father doesn't even have a lawyer," Aber Shafii said.

Shafii was one of the founders of the Freedom and Justice Party in Egypt.
He also took part in the election campaign with the proposal of Muhammed Morsi.
After the military coup in Egypt, Shafii, who went to Saudi Arabia with his family due to reasons and risks such as torture and ill-treatment, extrajudicial executions, executions, and lack of the right to a fair trial, continued to work in his field of expertise in Saudi Arabia.
Shafii is married and has four children. His wife and children live in Turkey.
