Retirees are waiting for the government to raise their salaries because they can't make a living.
In Osmaniye's Kadirli district, retirees and some citizens receiving 65-year-old pension, known as "old age pension", explained that their economic situation was difficult and they could not make ends meet.
Emphasizing that the wages they receive are insufficient, retirees stated that their most important problem is not being able to buy meat to eat with their salaries.
“I GO TO THE TOWN, I GET 1 KG OR HALF A KG OF MEAT A MONTH, ONLY THAT”
A citizen who says he is retired, "We cannot breed. How will he grow up under these conditions? It doesn't grow. We expect a raise, but the state does not give an intermediate raise. There is rent, there is electricity, there is water, there is a telephone, I am surprised how we live too, I do not know. I can't buy it, I just look and pass. I go to town, I buy 1 kilo, half a kilo of meat a month, that's all. No, what else?" he said.
Saying that he is a retired farmer and trying to maintain his life with a salary of 7,500 liras, the citizen said, "I'm teaching a child at university, girl. I give the salary to the child, and I live on a side income from the field. If I didn't have a house, this money wouldn't be enough for me. Where is the town from, I mean we can't go. Meat is expensive, but we get by with chicken or something."
“I EAT MEAT FROM EID TO EID”
The citizen, who said that they could not live on a salary of 7,500 liras, said, "We can't make a living on 7,500 liras at all. Money has no value anymore. We can't buy anything, we're hungry. We cannot do anything with 7,500 liras. If we go to a market, it ends. Town, I eat meat from year to year from eid to eid."
“HOW CAN I LIVE ON 2,300 LIRA”
Another citizen trying to make ends meet with old-age pension said, "Now the retiree earns 7-8 thousand lira, he says he can't get along with him, he barely makes ends meet. How can I make ends meet with 2,300 lira (65-year-old pension)? I am calling out to the authorities here, let them think about us a little. We also have children and families. I'm getting a 65-year-old pension, 2,300 liras. My wife is paralyzed at home. She asked for figs and they told me 75 liras, but I couldn't buy a kilogram of figs. This is the situation, I call on the authorities to act accordingly."
