Saadet Party Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman asked about cyanide leak two months ago, the ministry said "inspections in progress", months later the governor's office accepted the leak.
While the discussions about the leakage of cyanide from the Fırat River and the İliç Dam from the Kapakler Gold Mine in the Erzincan İliç district continue, it turned out that Saadet Party Deputy Karaduman had warned the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change months ago.
Two months later, in the reply given to Karaduman from the ministry, it is stated that "inspections were carried out" and fines were given without giving a name.
While the cyanide discussions in Erzincan's İliç district were continuing, it turned out that Saadet Party Deputy Abdulkadir Karaduman had warned the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change months ago and asked questions.
While Karaduman drew attention to the dangers that could be experienced in the parliamentary question, the ministry emphasized that "audits were carried out" in its reply two months later. However, both the Erzincan Governorate and the mining company acknowledged the leak in their statements.
KARADUMAN: “THE SUBJECT IS AVOIDED”
Karaduman said in a statement on the subject, "Months ago, we asked the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change about the cyanide pool that threatens water resources, agricultural lands and human health in Ilic, Erzincan, and drew attention to the danger. In the answer given to our parliamentary question, it was stated that there was no cyanide pool in the region and the issue was skipped. Erzincan Governorate confirmed that 20 m3 of cyanide from the pool had leaked into the Euphrates River. We see that a disaster has occurred as a result of the ignoring of the parliament's supervisory authority."
"DISASTER COULD BE PREVENTED"
Pointing out that the disaster could be prevented by the measures to be taken in the continuation of his statement, Karaduman said following words:
"This disaster could have been prevented by the inspections and measures to be taken. I invite all institutions, including the relevant ministry and governorship, to an urgent task so that this disaster in the region does not get worse. We are talking about a disaster that will make the region uninhabitable. It's a shame, it's a sin. I invite the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mr. Mustafa Şentop, for this approach, which violates the right of the parliament to obtain information and control."
