The report, in which the environment and drought were discussed, included measures to be taken against drought. While the researches conducted by independent institutions and organizations were also included, the report pointed out that water basins should be protected, agricultural lands should not be opened to development, and drought monitoring centers should be opened.
In the report, which stated that the National Drought Center should be established, it was stated that water collection basins should be protected from zoning, drought monitoring and early warning system should be established.
It caused the productivity of agriculture to decline
Important details were included in the Drought Report in Turkey prepared by the Felicity (Saadet) Party Environmental Policies Board. In the report, which also includes researches made by reliable institutions and organizations, it was stated that considering the climate conditions, the effects of global climate change in Turkey caused the decrease in water resources, drought, heat waves, increase in floods and decrease in agricultural productivity. Emphasizing in the report that drought will intensify and turn into an increasing problem, "drought is one of the most important global and regional environmental problems threatening the future of humanity, considering its consequences," the report said.
"SOCIETY SHOULD BE AWARE OF WATER USE"
In the conclusion part of the report, there were striking findings regarding the prevention of drought. In the report, which stated that the society should be made aware of water conservation and water use, it was pointed out that water management should be done in a planned, micro and macro scale by the right and competent hands. In the report, which stated that the capacities of waste water treatment facilities should be increased, the following were recorded;
"Restrictions and regulations should be imposed on concreting, necessary investments should be planned and implemented for rain harvesting on the basis of households and cities. Separate systems in which rain water and wastewater are collected separately in the infrastructure systems of cities should be implemented."
"A FUND FOR ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE SHOULD BE CREATED"
In the report, which stated that afforestation efforts should be increased, it was pointed out that water collection basins should be protected from zoning, drought monitoring and early warning system should be established. In the report, which stated that the National Drought Center should be established, "Climate change adaptation fund should be established. Short and long term policies should be determined in the field of agriculture and these policies should be arranged with the assumption that the temperature increase in our country will be between 2-3 degrees. Groundwater use should be limited, and groundwater withdrawal should be balanced in areas with seawater interference. In green areas, plants that help rainfall to feed groundwater should be used, observation wells should be drilled in more areas and groundwater levels should be controlled in accordance with the standards in order to predict the effects of climate changes and to take measures".
