Saadet Party Hatay Deputy Necmettin Çalışkan spoke at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) regarding the additional budget brought by the government after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.
Çalışkan emphasized that the earthquake is a supra-political issue.
"Earthquake should never be abused, we would like to express that we will support all kinds of positive actions to be taken against the earthquake until the end," Çalışkan said.
“DO NOT EXPLOIT THE EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS”
Çalışkan pointed out that new hikes should not be made on the grounds of the earthquake, such as the abuse of sacred values.
"Unfortunately, when it comes to the resource package, the first thing that came to the mind of the government was to increase taxes. If only they could say stop to waste, if only they could say stop to corruption; If only they could say stop to hundreds of vehicle convoys, palaces and aircraft fleets. If only reputation is not saved, but how to serve the public itself; even if they try to do so. Of course, this nation is self-sacrificing, it has made great sacrifices in the earthquake, but the person who makes sacrifices also wants to know the reward for what they have done, their sweat and effort. You have collected money many times, you have called people, but you have not revealed clear data on where this money is spent, unfortunately, a situation that satisfies the public and people pay with peace of mind has not emerged," Çalışkan added.
"DO NOT CAUSE THE VICTIMS TO LOSE HOPE"
Stating that exemptions should be made for earthquake victims before collecting taxes on earthquakes, Çalışkan said, "Unfortunately, today, it is talked about long-term loans rather than grant support to earthquake victims. You will not be doing any good if you make the person who has no income in debt, cause the person who has lost hope today to live without hope for the next ten years. Therefore, support to earthquake victims; It should be a grant, not a loan. Meanwhile, partial credit and support for houses with medium and heavy damage should definitely be provided for houses with less damage."
