Saadet Party Secretary General and Ankara Deputy Mesut Doğan stated that the problems faced by academics should be resolved as soon as possible.
Making a written statement, Doğan reminded that according to the announcement made by the Interuniversity Board, many changes were made in the criteria for associate professorship, and said that the regulation should be reconsidered.
“ACADEMICIANS HAVING DIFFICULTIES TO GET ON WELL”
Stating that these changes made in the academy have positive and negative aspects, Doğan said, "We see that the most important mistake with the regulation is the thought that the quality standard will rise with administrative decisions. With these new changes introduced in the academy, the main issue to be considered is the living standards of our academics. The lack of welfare level that will enable academicians to reach their career goals is not only their personal problem, but one of the most important problem areas of our country. Today, the average salary of a research assistant is 31 thousand TL, and the salary of a doctor lecturer is around 36 thousand 600 TL. It is not possible for our academicians, who need to allocate money both for their research and material and printed materials, and for their livelihoods, to do quality academic work due to this stress and livelihood. On the other hand, according to the criteria of associate professorship, some journals that are included in the international indexes do not have the power to pay the necessary fee to publish."
“A STAFF SHOULD BE ALLOCATED TO ACADEMICIANS”
Doğan stated that necessary arrangements should be made regarding the staff and said, "As it is known, the title of associate professor given to academicians by UAK is not sufficient; staff allocation is left to the initiative of the university or the rector. Many academicians have suffered from lack of staff for many years, despite the fact that they have signed off on qualified studies and received an associate professorship certificate from UAK. What needs to be done in this regard is that academics should not be sentenced to seeking positions in any period and that the duration of the contract should not be limited. A pool should be created to be appointed to the universities and institutions needed for academics who meet the necessary conditions, and the titles they deserve should be given. The problems of our academicians, who will carry our country to the future and add value to Turkey, are waiting for urgent solutions. For this reason, as the Felicity Party, we invite the authorities to take responsibility for the problems and expectations of the academic world to be discussed and resolved as soon as possible."
