Kariye Mosque, which shares the same fate with Hagia Sophia Mosque, the seal of conquest by turning from mosque to museum, is waiting to be opened to the service of Muslims again.
Kariye Mosque, which served as a mosque for 434 years, was turned into a museum with the decision of the Council of Ministers in 1945 and closed for worship of Muslims.
Felicity (Saadet) Party Fatih District Presidency gathered in front of Kariye Mosque for the opening of Kariye Mosque for worship.
Speaking at the demonstration place, Felicity Party Fatih District President Muzaffer Serenli, as a citizen living in Fatih, said that he is uncomfortable due to Musque that serves as a museum.
Muzaffer Serenli, who explained the legal struggle to reopen the Kariye Mosque for worship, has been sued by the Association of Permanent Foundations of Historical Works and Environment for the past years.
Following the repeated rejection of the case, the Council of State stated that the decision taken by the Council of Ministers in 1945 was unlawful decision.
It was pointed out by the court that Kariye Mosque was one of the hayrat immovables owned by Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation in accordance with the provisions of private law.
It was stated by the Council of State that the Kariye Mosque could not be used contrary to the foundation of Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
