After the June inflation data were announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the President of the Independent Public Employees' Union Confederation, Mehmet Alper Öğretici, made a written statement. The trainer expressed his demand for the lowest civil servant salary.

According to the figures announced by TURKSTAT, inflation increased by 3.92 percent in June, and according to the independent research group ENAGrup, this rate was 8.54 percent.

"Thus, the inflation in the first six months of the year was 19.77 percent, and the wages paid to civil servants and retirees, as always, remained below the inflation rate. The 8 percent increase given for the first six months melted away, and the inflation difference was greater than the increase received. Civil servants and retirees cannot be compensated for the fact that the salary increase calculations for civil servants and pensioners are made according to the data of TUIK and the calculations of TUIK do not match the facts in the field," Öğretici said.

"A NECESSARY UPDATE MUST BE MADE TO THE MINIMUM CIVIL SERVANTS' SALARY

Reminding the promise of President Erdogan to the lowest civil servant salaries before the election, Öğretici said, "When this promise was made, the minimum wage was 8 thousand 500 TL. In other words, the lowest civil servant salary would be 2.58 times the minimum wage. However, today the minimum wage is 11 thousand 402 TL. If we only look at this situation, the lowest salary should be 29 thousand 400 TL according to the promise made. Likewise, our workers will receive a 15 percent increase in July in accordance with the collective agreement. If the necessary update is not made in the lowest civil servant salary and it is left in the 22 thousand TL band, the promise made will not be fulfilled, the lowest civil servant salary will still be behind the lowest employee salary."

"ALL CONFEDERATIONS MUST BE INCLUDED"

Stating that all confederations should be included in the process for salary increase regulations that are expected to come to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, Öğretici said following words:

"A comprehensive change has been necessary to solve the problem in this period of increasing inequality between wages. As BASK, in order to increase the purchasing power of civil servants, the lowest civil servant salary should be 33 thousand 789 TL, and this wage should increase gradually according to profession and title."
