While the minimum wage discussions continued, Türk-İş Confederation Chairman Ergün Atalay demanded that the minimum wage be 9,000 Turkish Liras (TL), and the eyes were turned to the minimum wage. Türk Büro-Sen Union Chairman Türkeş Güney, on the other hand, called for a regulation in the salaries of civil servants, noting that the difference between the low-paid civil servants and the minimum wage would decrease, and said, “A separate arrangement should been made for our civil servants and public servants whose monthly salaries are below 10,000 TL.”

In the minimum wage debate, Türk-İş Confederation demanded the figure of 9,000 TL, and the eyes were turned to the minimum wage. While the figure revealed and the low salaries of civil servants were close to each other, the civil servants reacted, while the Chairman of the Turkish Bureau-Sen Türkeş Güney called for the regulation of the lowest civil servant salaries.

SALARY OF 263,000 PEOPLE IS UNDER 10,000 TL

Noting that 2,700,000 people are employed in the public sector, Güney stated that the gap between employment differences among employees widened and said,“As of December, 2,700,000 people are employed in the public sector, according to the data we received from the Integrated Public Financial Management Information System of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. While 590,003 people are employed as civil servants and 263,462 people are contracted, the salaries of these employees are below 10,000 TL. In this case, employees are experiencing economic problems.”

EQUALLY INCREASE IS NEEDED OR AN INCREASE ON BASE MONEY IS NEEDED

Demanding regulation despite the economic difficulties experienced and being equal to the minimum wage, Güney called for regulation to the government, “With the increases made in percentage rates, the gap between low monthly areas and high monthly areas has widened. This situation caused new grievances. A separate arrangement should be made especially for our civil servants and public servants whose salaries are less than 10,000 TL. In January, either an equal increase or a base salary increase should be made.”
