Inflation figures for November were announced by TURKSTAT. According to the data, monthly inflation was announced as 3.28 percent and annual inflation was 61.98 percent.

In his statement after the data was announced, Memur-Sen Chairman Ali Yalçın stated that the inflation difference was 26.09 percent. Yalçın noted that the inflation difference that public employees will receive will become clear with the announcement of December inflation.

Reminding that the decision in the 7th Term Collective Agreement was taken by the Arbitration Board rather than concrete data reflecting reality, Yalçın stated that the salary increases of public servants and retirees are expected to be approximately 50 percent in January 2024.

"15 percent of this increase will be due to the decision of the Arbitration Board, and the remaining part will be due to inflation difference. When we look at the salary increase rates for 2024 today, it is clearly seen that the inflation difference will determine the salary increases of public servants in 2024. However, if the proposals presented by Memur-Sen today were implemented, public officials would not have difficulty in facing the winter," Yalçın said.

“THE MAIN FACTOR THAT TRIGGERS INFLATION IS MARKET INCREASES”

Yalçın stated that it has become clear that it is not a solution for the public employer to impose wage increases on the inflation difference, and pointed out that in the fight against inflation, it should stop being a data used only as an increase in fixed incomes.

"The fact that our fixed wage earners are always the losers in the race between salary increases and product price increases should be known to everyone, and it should not be overlooked that the main factor that triggers inflation is not salary increases but unfair and unwarranted market increases," Yalçın added.

“A SOLUTION THAT COVERS ALL OUR PUBLIC EMPLOYEES MUST BE PRODUCED”

Drawing attention to the difficulties experienced by public employees, Yalçın stated that different arrangements should be made for each employee.

"It is the primary duty of the public employer to avoid creating wage inequality by making different arrangements for public officials. With justified practices instead of different practices; Solutions to problems involving all our public servants must be produced, and practices that will cause reactions must be avoided. Improvements should be made for public servants in January, and the regulation should satisfy public servants and retirees," Yalçın said.
