The bagel (simit) started to be sold for 7.5 liras in some districts of Istanbul.
Şaban Özdemir, President of Istanbul "Un-İş Tradesmen's Chamber of Craftsmen", stated that 100 grams of simits are still 5 liras and said about those who sell for 7.5 liras, "We do not have a decision to raise the prices," he said.
The 100-gram simit, which was sold for 3.5 liras in Istanbul, was increased to 5 liras in November 2022.
The tradesmen, who complained that the increase in electricity and natural gas prices increased the costs, started to sell the bagel, which was 5 liras, for 7-7.50 liras with the new year.
“WE DON'T HAVE A RAISE DECISION”
Şaban Özdemir, President of Istanbul Un-İş Tradesmen and Craftsmen Chamber, said that they did not have any decision to raise.
Asked by ANKA News Agency whether simit prices have increased or not, Özdemir said, "We do not have a raise decision. Unfortunately, these are malicious people. When we make a decision, we share it with the public."
“IT NEEDS TO BE SOLD FOR 8 TL TO REACH THE OLD PROFIT MARGINS”
On the other hand, Özdemir, in a statement he made in November 2022, stated that the cost of the bagel was 5 liras.
"The simit needs to be sold for 8 TL in order for the roll and pastry to return to their former profit margins," he said.
