Six Opposition Parties will seek consensus by discussing the headscarf proposal prepared by the Good (İYİ) Party. The headscarf proposal, which was prepared by the People's Alliance in the past months, remains on the agenda. The opposition is trying to take a common stance on the proposal, which is expected to be discussed by the Constitutional Commission and brought to the agenda of the Parliament on Thursday. In this context, the headscarf proposal prepared by the Good Party was sent to other parties at the table.
IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE JANUARY 5 STATEMENT
The headscarf issue, which first came to the agenda with the law proposal prepared by the Republican People’s Party (CHP), turned into a proposal to amend the Constitution after President Erdoğan described it as a ‘goal pass’. At the Six Opposition Parties’ meeting held on January 5, the leaders discussed the headscarf issue and included this issue in the published statement. The statement said, “We are in full agreement to provide a legal guarantee that will prevent the reoccurrence of this outdated ban that has ruined the lives of millions of women.”
GOOD PARTY PREPARED THE PROPOSAL, OTHER PARTIES WILL EXAMINE
In this context, the headscarf proposal, which was completed after the work of the Good Party, was sent to the Saadet Party, CHP, Democracy and Progress (Deva) Party, Future (Gelecek) Party and Democrat Party, which are the other members of the 6 Opposition Parties. While the staff of the 5 parties are meticulous about the proposal, they want the compromised proposal not to be abused by the AKP. After the proposal has become a common decision as a result of consultations, it is said that the leaders may come before the meeting to be hosted by the Good Party on January 26. However, according to lobbyists, it is said that if a consensus is reached on the proposal, it may be announced to the public in the coming days.
THE OPPOSITION WILL STAND BEHIND THE PROPOSAL
The 3-item proposal, with 336 signatures by AKP and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) supporters, will be discussed at the Constitutional Commission. The AKP needs the support of the opposition for the proposal to pass the Parliament. The opposition, on the other hand, took a common stance on this issue and doesn't accept the proposal prepared by the AKP because of some of the ingredients and words in it. While the opinion that the law proposal prepared by the CHP wing is sufficient, it is stated that the last word belongs to the Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. While it is seen that the Good Party has a negative view of the referendum option, it is stated in the general view of the table that the proposal prepared with joint consultations should be accepted by the government. It is said that if the government takes a contrary stance, it will not be supported.
