As the country enters the election atmosphere, the debate on whether there will be a snap election continues. Although Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli said that the elections will take place on time, in June, different dates are being mentioned in the backstage of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Some AKP executives consider it difficult that the elections take place in June.
SNAP ELECTION WILL BE MADE MID APRIL OR EARLY MAY
In AKP backstage, it is stated that it is ‘impossible’ for snap elections to be held before April 6th. It is emphasized that if elections are held before April 6, the old Election Law will be applied, and therefore the elections will be held after April 7. AKP officials say mid-April or early May would be more suitable for snap elections. In addition, some AKP officials, who state that there is a possibility of a second ballot in the election, say that it would not be appropriate to hold an election in June.
OPPOSITION IS READY FOR SNAP ELECTION
In case the government brings the election forward, the opposition deputies in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) will also have to give the approval. While the number of deputies of the People's Alliance remains at 336, 360 deputies must raise their hands for the country to hold snap elections. Opposition party deputies state that if the government brings the snap elections to the TBMM, “They will say yes to the elections without stopping for a day.”
